The L.A. Clippers will spend the next three weeks giving back to the community at five holiday events across Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. During this season of giving, the Clippers’ aim to alleviate the financial pressure and stress on families during the holiday and provide a joyful season for everyone involved. In total, the five events will impact more than 4,000 community members, providing available funds for essential items and make a significant difference in a family’s livelihood. These events will also provide thousands of children with a place to play for years to come.
The Clippers Season of Giving will tip-off on Monday, December 16, as the team will host the 14th annual Adopt-A-Family event at the Salvation Army Siemon Family Youth & Community Center. Clippers players JaMychal Green, Montrezl Harrell, Rodney McGruder, Patrick Patterson, and Landry Shamet will surprise 34 families with holiday gifts, food, and much more. The families will also participate in a reading segment, in which the players read holiday books to the children.
On Wednesday, December 18, Clippers guard Patrick Beverley and the L.A. Clippers Foundation will unveil a newly renovated Clippers Community Court at Mid Valley Family YMCA, courtesy of supporting partner 99 Cents Only Stores. Following the ribbon-cutting, Pat, along with volunteers and season ticket holders, will distribute holiday gifts, including a new bicycle, to all 100 children attending the event. The Mid Valley YMCA is the leading area community center for youth, families, and seniors, serving over 5,000 youth and adults per year in structured programs.
Also taking place on December 18, Clippers forward Paul George and the Paul George Foundation will host his 3rd Annual “Paul George Christmas Celebration” at Dave & Buster’s for ten local families who have been impacted by a stroke within their family. Paul will spend the evening distributing bags filled with jerseys, gear, and a pair of his latest signature Nike sneakers, the PG3, and challenge the children to arcade games. He will also share stories from his personal experiences of his mother suffering a stroke when he was six years old and how it impacted his life growing up.
Clippers forward Rodney McGruder will visit Cedars-Sinai Hospital on Friday, December 27, to spread some holiday cheer with patients and their families.
To close out this Season of Giving, on Sunday, December 29, Paul George will return to his hometown of Palmdale to unveil new and refurbished courts at Domenic Massari Park. To mark this event, The City of Palmdale has declared the day “Paul George Day,” and will host a festival with booths and activities for families, and the Clippers will hold a youth basketball clinic and shooting contests on the new courts.
In addition to these events, this week, the L.A. Clippers Foundation, led by Clippers mascot Chuck the Condor, will distribute 3,500 toys to five Watts elementary schools, and the L.A. Clippers Foundation, along with presenting partner 99 Cents Only Stores, are holding an in-arena toy drive to benefit local youth organizations. Throughout the year, the Clippers work to inspire children through the game of basketball and utilize its unique position to provide resources and opportunities that make a positive difference towards leveling the playing field for youth in Southern California. On the first day of school this fall, Kawhi Leonard, in partnership with the L.A. Clippers Foundation and non-profit Baby2Baby, donated one million backpacks to students in Southern California; the Clippers have also committed to refurbishing 350 public basketball courts in the city; and through a partnership with Vision to Learn, the Clippers are providing free eye exams and glasses for all students in need in three school districts.
